Martell : maxi cognac bottles for the Asian market

The Martell company has invested 400,000 euros at its Lignères facility to automate a cognac bottling line for capacities of 3 and 4.5 liters (VSOP, Cordon Bleu, Noblige and XO ranges) for the Asian market where large capacity formats are very popular.
Marnier-Lapostelle raises its prices

Marnier-Lapostelle, the 5th largest buyer of cognac in the region, has announced price increases for its suppliers : +2.4% in Bons Bois, +2.1% in Fins Bois, +1.3% in Petite Champagne and Borderies, +1.1% in Grande Champagne.
Pernod-Ricard has its eye on vodka

Martell raises its prices

The Martell cognac house has announced a 2.75% increase in the price it pays to winegrowers (+1.8% in Grande Champagne, +2.4% in Petite Champagne, +3% in Fins Bois and Borderies) and a 40% increase in the quantity to be acquired from the SICA-UVPC cooperative.
Stolen cognac quickly recovered

In early November a truck containing 1568 cases of cognac with an estimated worth of almost 200,000 euros was stolen from a transport company in the Sarthe. The thieves were arrested very quickly and the truck’s contents were recovered intact.
Winegrowers want nothing to do with AOC tax

Several dozen cognac producers in the Charente are in dispute with INAO which is asking them to pay 80 cents per hectoliter of pure alcohol sold since 2002, the date when the tax on the right to use the AOC (Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée) label was created. « We have been under AOC since 1936 and there have never been any problems in the past. If some people suddenly want to pour money into a cash making machine, that doesn’t bother me but I shall not be following suit. » says a winegrower and member of the Modef agricultural union.

Rémy Cointreau (Rémy Martin cognac) is looking to sell its « Clé des Ducs » armagnac and its « Izarra » liqueur. In the past two years the group’s number of brands has fallen from 65 to 10.

The 3rd edition of the recipe book « Cuisine au pineau » by Françoise Barbin-Lécrevisse, which appeared when « La cuisine du cognac et du pineau » (Cooking with cognac and pineau), published in 1998, was split into two books, has just been published and includes an English version « Cooking with pineau ».
Pernod-Ricard : protecting against takeover bids

Pernod-Ricard (Martell cognac) has voted in favor of a resolution enabling it, in the event of a takeover bid, to issue free stock purchase warrants but decided against limiting voting rights.

Michel Gillet, a French chef living in Canada, owns the largest collection of cognac in the world. He has over 850 different bottles. His collection is estimated to be worth 550,000 euros. He is entered in the Guinness Book of Records.
